“Why yes, of course it is lassy! Though, I don’t recall ever having wine before…But rum is the best!” Smee laughed, spilling a little bit of rum from the bottle as he held it out to Ariel.

Ariel eyed the bottle warily before finally taking it from Smee.  One sip wouldn’t hurt, and she would be able to tell right away if she liked it or not.  She took a quick sip before she could change her mind and nearly dropped the bottle as she delved into a coughing fit.

Smee laughed a bit, as he had seen people cough from drinking rum before. He then immediately felt bad and began to pat Ariel’s back, “Me dearest apologies, lassy, I have been drinking rum for so long, I forget that it may be a wee bit strong to others!” He then pulls out a canteen of water and hands it to Ariel. “Aye, is it safe to say that rum isn’t for you, lassy?”

“Definitely not,” Ariel responded hoarsely.  She took the water canteen from Smee, taking a few big gulps to rinse the horrible taste out of her mouth.  She didn’t think she would ever understand the appeal of alcohol.

Smee felt bad that Ariel disliked the rum so much. “Aye, me apologies, lassy, but us pirates don’t exactly get to dine as well as others.” Immediately after that sentence, Smee’s stomach growls and groans, and he puts his hand on his plump belly.

Right on cue, Carlotta reappeared on the beach, brining a picnic basket with her.  ”Sorry it took so long; Louis couldn’t make up his mind what to give you,” she explained as she set the basket between the two.

“Thank you, Carlotta!” Ariel said with a smile.

Smee smiled, clapped, and danced. He wasn’t sure if he was so excited for food, or just to have a picnic with this new person he had met. “Oh goody! Say, what did the lady bring for lunch, lassy!?” Smee plops down on the ground next to the basket.

Smee nodded, finally understanding how she could find every day human things as treasures. “Aye, that is quite fascinating. Which human items have become your favorite? Or do you like the most? I’ll show you one of my favorites!” As Smee says this, he pulls out his jug of rum and takes a quick swig.

“I don’t know if I could choose!” Ariel admitted.  She leaned forwards as Smee pulled something out of his sack, then made a face as she caught a whiff of alcohol.  She had tried wine in the first week after Triton had turned her human and she had hated how it made her head feel.  Eric had assured her that she would get used to it, but she hadn’t touched the stuff since.  ”Alcohol doesn’t sit well with me.”

Smee made a scrunched up face, as he usually does after taking a drink of rum. “Aye, I’ve heard that from lots of people! Except pirates, alcohol sits quite well with us pirates!” Smee chuckles a bit before taking another swig. “Aye, but was rum the alcohol you tried, lassy?” Smee offers out his jug of rum to Ariel. Sharing his rum was something we definitely wasn’t used to.

“No, it was wine,” Ariel answered as Smee held the bottle out to her.  She considered it for a moment.  ”Is rum better than wine?”

"Why yes, of course it is lassy! Though, I don’t recall ever having wine before…But rum is the best!" Smee laughed, spilling a little bit of rum from the bottle as he held it out to Ariel.

When Smee heard that she he had found treasure, he immediately gave her his full attention. Not that she hadn’t had it before, but the word treasure to a pirate is much like a dog whistle. “Aye, what kind of treasure, lassy!? Did you find gold? Or perhaps jewels and precious stones!?” Smee had really never seen treasure, and always imagined what it looked like.

“Oh no, nothing like that,” Ariel laughed as she shook her head.  ”I mean, I did find some of that, but to me the real treasure was all of the human stuff.  I didn’t know what most of things were that I found, so it was exciting trying to guess what they were used for.”

Smee scratched his head, “Human stuff? Say, like what kind of stuff, lassy?” Smee always thought of gold, coins, jewels, and gems when heard the word “treasure”, but he was also used to living above water his entire life, unlike Ariel.

“Everything!  Anything that I found in ship wrecks that I didn’t know what it was was treasure to me,” Ariel explained.  She thought longingly of her old grotto, of all of the adventures she had gone on while collecting her treasures.  ”The last few treasures I found before I turned human were a dingl - I mean, a fork and a pipe,” she corrected herself.  ”They were unique and different, so they were treasures to me.”

Smee nodded, finally understanding how she could find every day human things as treasures. “Aye, that is quite fascinating. Which human items have become your favorite? Or do you like the most? Husband? Oh no, were people spreading false information. “We’re not married,” she said, turning pink in the face. “We aren’t even engaged yet. He’s just me beau. And his name’s Eugene…”

“Aye, yes! My apologies, lassy! I was sure the wedding already happened! Aye, Eugene, what a peculiar name that is…Well, where is the laddy? Wouldn’t he be having more fun if he were here dancing with you?” Smee tries to talk while he was dancing, but he was starting to become short of breath since his weight wasn’t exactly in his favor.

“I don’t think he likes dancing very much. I usually have to force him,” she explained. Not to mention he had been busy lately, and barely had enough time to see her, much less go to the marketplace to dance with her.

"Doesn’t like dancing!? Who doesn’t like dancing!?" Smee exclaims as he attempts to show his best moves. However, it doesn’t last long as he soon finds himself panting again. "Aye, I’m not in the best shape to dance, I do admit!" Smee takes a break and rests next to Rapunzel, "Say, will I get to me this fellow of yours?"

“Oh well that’s… good,” she decided finally. She was going to trust him when he said that. Though she would be a bit more cautious than she usually was until he gained her trust. The silence was thick with awkwardness as Rapunzel found herself lost for words for once.

Smee heard music coming from the market area of Corona. He smiled in excitement, grabbed Rapunzel’s hand, and took off running as fast as his little pirate sandals could take him. As they arrive to the area, Smee exclaims, “Aye, they always seem to be playing music here! I love it, lassy!” Then, he begins dancing in an awkward-pirate fashion.

Rapunzel couldn’t help but laugh as Smee tugged her along. Surely pirates didn’t dance with such enthusiasm. He must be a decent person! “I love that about Corona, actually! Dancing is so much fun!” And with that, she began to spin and twirl around Smee to the beat of the music.

The only type of music Smee grew accustomed to was the music the pirates played aboard The Jolly Roger, and though that music is fun to sing along to, there wasn’t much dancing involved. Sure he would clap along and stomp his feet, but it was nothing like this! As Smee tried his best to dance and hum along to the music, he opened his eyes to one of the best sites he had seen in awhile. It’s not every day Smee gets to be surrounded by such wonderful people. Over the music, he says to Rapunzel, “Aye, where is your husband? What’s the laddy’s name…Ragene!?”

Husband? Oh no, were people spreading false information. “We’re not married,” she said, turning pink in the face. “We aren’t even engaged yet. He’s just me beau. And his name’s Eugene…”

Smee became jealous that Ariel had experienced such adventures. Not in a bad way, but he was baffled that a princess of all people had more adventures than a pirate. “Say, how were you able to travel so far, lassy!?” Smee exclaims in excitement, hoping to get ideas from her. “Aye, did you ever encounter any beasts from the sea!?” he yells as he pretends to fend off an imaginary creature. “Or did you ever find any treasure!?”

“I travel a lot with Eric, when he goes to visit some of the nearby kingdoms.  I get to see new places, and learn about them, and explore when we’re not meeting with the royal families.  Being able to explore just about makes up for having to sit through those boring meetings,” she added, making a face.

She laughed as Smee asked about the sea creatures.  ”I had my fair share of run-ins with sharks, but nothing too serious.”  She left out her encounter with Ursula; she really didn’t want to delve into that at the moment.  ”I found lots of treasure!  Well, not your traditional treasure.  Treasure to me was human stuff that I found in sunken ships.”
